During a holiday in Italy a number of years ago I started to notice stationary bicycles propped up against walls, outside shops and other places in many of the busy holiday resorts and tourist locations. I couldn't avoid being attracted, not only to the geometric shapes of the cycles but also to the way they seemed to 'settle into' their surrounding landscape. Photographing stationary bicycles became something of an obsession and whilst there were plenty to photograph in the UK when I returned home following each vacation, none of the images seemed to measure up the Italian stationary bicycles contained in this small selection.
