This series started by chance in around 2018 when I began to notice an increase in the number of retail outlets closing down whilst working on other projects. The decline of retail continued over the next couple of years as several major high street chains collapsed along with many smaller independent retailers.

Then from March 2020 we encountered the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic - more major chains have disappeared from our town centres and of course it is likely that many more will disappear as we come out of Covid-19 restrictions later this year. The images shown here are a selection made between 2018 and 2020. I plan to continue adding to them during 2021 and 2022 as I explore the likely impact of recent events on our High Streets.
