STREETS IN COLOUR
My initial approach to street photography was to produce monochrome images. For a number of years it is fair to say that the bulk of my street work was in black and white.
Gradually, I started to experiment with the occasional image in colour and as more of my street photography fell within the structure of specific projects or series I made a conscious decision that many projects would be wholly photographed in colour.
Now most of my street shots are colour apart from the occasional dalliance with monochrome.
I am often asked why I switched to colour. The glib answer is “because I could!” But the reality is that at regular intervals through my photographic life, I have stepped back to take stock of what I am photographing and consider whether I should embark upon a new artistic direction and it is occasions like this that have led to each change of approach.
At the time of writing (February, 2021) I have reached the end of a similar period of self examination and as we move out of the restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic it is likely that I will move away from pure street photography and in a new direction.
